An Adjective Adventure

Did you love grammar as a kid? Nouns, pronouns, adverbs, verbs, prepositional phrases, adjectives and all that? Not so much, you say? You’re in good company!

I really liked writing (still do :)), reading, English… and as I grew older learned the importance of knowing the parts of a sentence, but does learning all that have to be dry and boring?

So we tried a thing today. A co-op style “learning day” geared for preschool to 2nd grade… we had some younger and some older tagging along too, in good home school style! And I attempted to make learning and practicing descriptive vocabulary words fun! We learned and experienced through all five senses and without using textbooks. At the bottom of this post there’s a FREE print-out if you’d like to have your own ‘Adjective Adventure’!

We took a nature walk using repurposed ice-cream pails and bags to collect nature items on the Scavenger hunt ‘Find’ list, and creatively describing our many ‘Experiences.’ You’ll want to print the linked resource page I created and this will make more sense!

We brought back leaves of many shapes and sizes, and made fall leaf texture art (a less messy version of nature to take home!).

Unique, beautiful, detailed, ornate leaf designs

Here’s the link to a single page that will guide you to having your OWN Adjective Adventure! Ideal for ages 3-10. Check out the bottom of the page for additional adjective activities, including a simple family challenge the next time you have POPCORN!
