Construction Zone to Home – The House series
#CurrentHappenings from January 2017!
Compared to just a few weeks ago when the guys carried in the drywall, the look of the house has changed so much!
How cool is it to watch your room get walls??! Ole was sure to let them know his order was for red walls… He is so ready to move in! At home we read about drywalling. Pretty much we’ve been eating, sleeping, and breathing drywall for 3 weeks! It’s been CRAZY! This is the part of the process of the house rebuild that is the most visually rewarding. To see what I mean, just keep scrolling, and I apologize in advance for so. many. photos!
Sheetrock being hung…
Some pretty special visitors came at THE MOST EXCITING TIME of the house project! 😀 Grandpa and Grandma from China! Mudding and taping (above) – see the tape and damp mud to the right of my head
Finished, with everything primed and ceiling painted (below)
Working ‘Round the Clock
For the first two weeks, the drywall crew hung, mudded and taped by day, as Ben prepared the next level, and then Ben would continue working doing all the last minute things that had to get in the walls by night. A lot of times he’d come home at 1am and leave again at 5am. I don’t even know how he pushed through, but I *think* everything we wanted done behind the walls got in! Thanks, Babe!
Sheetrock backers – want to hang bath towels? Kitchen upper cabinets? Shelves on the wall? Built-in shelves Last minute wiring, caulking, sealing around windows and between studs
Insulating between all interior walls and on the ceiling Nighttime goofiness {thanks for your help, guys!}
No names, but someone who is a bit artistic left a surprise: Bye, bye toilet {for a little while}! And don’t forget those TP roll holder backers! Not sure where you’re going to place it? Well… make sure you’ve got multiple options covered! Covering up lights, electrical panel, and everything else that shouldn’t be dusty, splattered, or painted
…and tons more nitty-gritty details.
What I do best? Make signs with instructions of how I want the job done. I knew they were a good crew when they told Ben that the lady of the house is the REAL boss. 😀 True that! 😉
Delegate and Document the process {with a bazillion pictures}; at 36 weeks pregnant, that’s pretty much all I’m able to do, ugh.
Upstairs Bathroom
Fat and happy. Checking over that day’s work.

Have you ever thought before how they get those heavy sheets up against the ceiling? Check out that awesome taping bazooka gun!

Priming & Painting
The joys of an old house… The guys said this was definitely a challenging project! All the angles, all the seams; there wasn’t a single piece of sheetrock in the whole house that didn’t have to be cut to fit. Ben did a great job framing out, and Dave and Caleb did quality, detailed work to get those corners crisp! And they made me pretty happy by doing SMOOTH walls AND smooth ceilings! It’s common in bigger cities, but around here, flat/smooth walls are rare! And I am quite proud.
Public Service Announcement: This construction zone is now looking like a house, so be careful! No more messy projects inside! And whatever you do, DON’T TOUCH THE WALLS!!!!
We’ve also been testing wood stain for the trim and doors we will do ourselves, and have been collecting allthepaintchips in order to make the best possible decision for colors, which comes next!
Stay tuned!
