Savor

My 2018 Word for the Year

savor

[verb]
to taste or smell with pleasure : relish
to delight in : enjoy
to enjoy (something) for as long as possible
I imagine tasting something delectable with my eyes closed; fully being immersed in enjoying the flavor and experience.
It is absolutely impossible to savor when hurried.  It is impossible to savor when stressed.  If you are worry-ing you can’t be savor-ing.
To savor is to enjoy.  To delight in.  To cherish.  I like to think it is what Mary was doing in Luke 2:19 when she paused to think on all that was happening and treasured the moment.

Lord, you know this wouldn’t be my word choice {who would think of “savor”???!} but it is the one you impressed on my heart for this year.  And it really does describe the things my rush-rush too-often-critical self needs to work on.  To savor even the crazy days with little ones {because they ARE growing up oh so fast!}.  To appreciate more.  To slow down and remember self-stewardship.  To do something I love just for the joy and fun of doing it.  To carve out time for friends {some of whom are behind the making and gifting of this beautiful sign!}.  To notice and be thankful for every small blessing.  To really appreciate people.  To love hard, serve often, and be filled with gratitude always!  Help me to pause to —enJOY—  …The snow.  The sunset.  Kid cuddles.  Girl time.  Matching pink-painted nails.  The healing journey.  These beautiful days together as a family.  Yes, and living with unfinished drywall edges.  It’s a marvelous, wonderful, delightful, messy life you’ve given us!  Thank You.  Help me to savor it well.  Here’s to Your year 2018, so full of gifts and blessings already! <3
