Flying across the top of the globe (almost)

Who takes their 3 month old on a THIRTEEN HOUR first flight? And going to China, of all places! Uh… we do?

Within a few minutes at the airport I had already seen people (Koreans?) bow to each other in greeting, heard Chinese, and saw someone trying to dump the wax out of their earbud.

From the moment we stepped on the plane, all the flight crew fell in love with Ole!

He even got to get a picture IN THE COCKPIT with the pilots, special because it was his 1st flight! The Captain (seen holding him), was just like a fun grandpa and wanted to keep him up there with him for a while! But the other pilots gave him a hard time and said he couldn’t babysit and fly a plane at the same time, so he gave him back!

It made my day to have these special pictures!!! 😀

There was also a really nice flight attendant, Alberta, who loved to see and hold Ole, so we visited the galley area in the back a few times!

He slept for a lot of the long flight, which was nice, and only cried once just a little, which was very VERY nice!

Our good little traveler!

We flew northwest around the globe – over Alaska, above the Arctic Circle (!), over snow-capped Serbia, Russia and then south to a layover in Beijing, China, and then Hong Kong!

After more than 26 hours, we finally arrived in Hong Kong. I think I got a total of about two hours of sleep in the last 30 hours… So we’re glad to be here, but mostly just tired!

On the last flight, about 6pm local time, Ole was super happy and smiling – just like he is in the mornings (very unusual for the evening). Then it hit me. This WAS his morning (7am old time)… That made sense for why he slept in long stretches on the first flight, his “night,” and now… Well, we’ll see how the night goes. 😛

Glad to hear all went well. I am happy to hear you were finally able to make the trip. I am sure your family will be happy to see you and meet Ole.
