Debt Free and Screamin’

Way back in early 2012, we went through a 13-week course on the basics of personal finance, Financial Peace University.

dsc_3683The practical things Ben and I learned changed how we viewed, communicated about, and managed our money.  As young adults, it was something that set us up well to successfully navigate adult life {helped us act mature, learn patience, set boundaries, strengthen our marriage, form principles and convictions; in so many other areas of life than just finance}.  We’d highly recommend it, and could give a lot more details… but that’s not what this post is about.

We did the class with three other young couples, one of whom was just engaged.

img_0790-3Well, 4.5 years {and a lot of kids between all of us, haha!} later that couple became DEBT FREE!!!!  Making three out of the four from our original class so far!  Now with two beautiful girls, and having made a cross-country move to actually work for Ramsey Solutions (!!!), we couldn’t be more proud! 😀  They are some of our really good friends, and we’re (maybe?) their biggest cheerleaders for their marriage and financial freedom and this journey they’ve been on.  It hasn’t been easy, and they DID IT!  So today we just want to say…

Congrats, Alex & Hannah!

 Unfortunately we can’t be there in person, but you bet we’ll be watching the LIVE stream of your DEBT FREE SCREAM!  {Those of you not familiar with it may find it a little cheesy at first, but it has become a tradition on the Dave Ramsey Show as a way to mark this milestone of a changed financial life and to encourage others by real people’s stories that they can do the same.}

UPDATE:  Here’s the video!  {Thank you to my tech-savvy husband, Ben! :)}

Culturally it’s normal to have debt.  Christians are called to live counter-cultural in this and other things, so we’re ok with being WEIRD!  Welcome to the Weird Club. 😉

Is there something in your life you think you couldn’t ever do?  That is so big, it would take a Very Long Time and God’s strength to make it through?  Let us know in the comments so we can be praying for you and help encourage in any way we can, and let this couple’s story inspire you!

    This was so sweet. THANK YOU! You definitely are our biggest cheerleaders. We might not have succeeded without your accountability and friendship! To see our pictures together after 4 years… What’s it going to look like in 4 more? I can’t wait to see it. Thanks for this post dear friend!

      You can do it!!! Do you have a plan that you’re working towards for when that will be?
